Self-Directed IRAs
Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) are trusts or custodial accounts set up in the United States for your exclusive benefit or for the benefit of your beneficiaries. Most banks that offer custodial accounts limit the types of investments that it may hold.
IB&T offers truly self-directed IRAs, allowing you to invest in a diverse range of assets, all permissible by the Internal Revenue Service. With a self-directed IRA, just some of the things you can invest in include real estate, notes, partnerships, and private placements.
IB&T provides no services or choices of investments. We provide only custodial, record-keeping, and ministerial services, so you are free to choose what you want to invest in.
You can choose to have either a tax-deferred IRA, on which taxes on income are not paid until withdrawn at retirement, or a Roth IRA, which is funded with post-tax earnings but future withdrawals are tax free.
Tax-deferred IRAs include the following:
- Traditional IRA
- Simplified Employee Plan (SEP IRA)
- Savings Incentive Match Plans for Employees (SIMPLE)
- Education IRAs
You may also open a self-directed Health Savings Account.
